We are all beginners to our next step.” – Guruprem
No matter where we fall on the spectrum of experience in life, we share something with every other human being. We are all beginners to our next step. We cannot know what it is to be at our next step because we have not been there yet. We only know what we know.
Grasping this teaching allows us to relax into the understanding that we are always beginners. To cultivate beginner’s mind opens us up to the teachings that life itself has to offer, teachings that we would surely miss if we came with an attitude of, “I know.”
On the path of personal and spiritual development, “I know” are two of the most limiting and dangerous words. These are words that prevent us from progress and can keep us stuck in the frequency of addiction.
This teaching also helps us to understand and appreciate all people’s challenges as they approach something new, which is all the time. This cultivates one of the most important assets – humility.
To be humble is to be right-sized. We neither amplify our importance, nor diminish it. We do not see anyone as ahead or behind us. We may be more or less knowledgeable than someone else, or more or less experienced in some way. Nonetheless, the playing field is level, we are all beginners to our next step.
Intention
I will open myself to co-create and receive this day with an attitude of beginner’s mind. I will become more conscious of other people’s efforts and struggles and realize that they, too, are working to live into their next step.
I will show up today fresh and open to what the day holds for me. I will focus on co-creating something beautiful as I receive each new breath and live from greater presence and consciousness
