AN EVER-GROWING FREEDOM
‘ We saw that we did not need to be bludgeoned or beaten into humility. It could come quite as much from our voluntary reaching for it as it could from unremitting suffering. A great turning point in our lives came when we sought for humility as something we really wanted, not something we must have. It marked the time we could see the full implication of Step Seven: “Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings” ‘ – page 75 12 and 12
‘The Seventh Step is where we make the change in our attitude which permits us, with humility as our guide, to move out from ourselves toward others and toward God’ – page 77 12 and 12
“It worked for me then, and it has worked for me many times since, and it will work for me every time I am willing to work it. Sometimes I have to ask first for the willingness, but it always comes. And because it works for me, it will work for all of us. As another great man says, ‘The only real freedom a human being can ever know is doing what you ought to do because you want to do it.” ‘ – Big Book Page 552
